A member of the mint family, basil is characterized by a strong flavor that bridges clove and licorice. Popular in Italian cuisine, basil is excellent in spaghetti sauce and pesto or atop pizza.  Basil leaves are smooth, glossy and boxy.

Care and Handling

Ideal Temperature: 50-55 F. Keep fresh herbs in their original plastic shipping bags in your cooler. The closed bag creates a stable environment for herbs. Temperatures lower than 48 F will cause basil to turn black.
